Human powered track groomer

I was looking around for plans to build a human powered xc ski tracker/groomer and came across this homemade version that is made with just some 2x4 lumber and runners. I know there are (were?) some commercially available versions of this but they seem quite expensive.

Anyone built one? How hard are they to pull on snowshoes?
