Pro4mance Zwift Ride
Tuesday March 19  –  5:00 AM to 6:00 AM
Created by: Andrew Jacobs, Rupert Walsh
Where: Zwift

Come join us every Tuesday for the Pro4mance Zwift Ride. Meet us at the start/finish line and we will slowly roll for 1-2 minutes while everyone groups up.

We will be doing 2 laps of the Richmond course, we will slowly increase the pace on the first lap (2.5-3w/kg) and then hold on for the the 2nd lap as the group will determine the intensity.

Richmond has 3 hills each lap in which the group will hold 3w/kg ...on the first lap climbs. I (pro4mance.com.au) will control the first lap speed so stay behind me and keep the group together especially on the climbs.

Every week has been getting bigger, so if you want to join in for a group ride or really challenge yourself, come along and put yourself in the hurt box for a hour.

RIDE LEADER: Joe Tiley-Walker/Dave Bibby

ABOUT THIS RIDE

The Tuesday SUB2.5 Ride is aimed at users looking for a group ride a little higher than the usual SUB2 pace, the group will set out 5min before SUB2 to allow riders to push but with the option of dropping back to the following SUB2 group.

The idea is to allow SUB2 riders to push their limits.

It is still not a race - please try and keep with the group and be wary of jumping off the line too quickly.

WHAT TIME DOES THE RIDE START?

Yes - please add SUB2.5 to your screen name so we know you are part of this group ride.

HDR - Aussie Hump Day Ride
Wednesday March 20  –  4:00 AM to 5:15 AM
Created by: Tim Searle
Where: Watopia

Summary: Social pace ride led by Tim Searle. 60 minutes easyish laps + an optional harder 15 minute "After Party" ride. Wear any jersey. Use any bike except TT. Course normally Flat Forward, but may vary in future. The ride will generally incorporate a "hump" somewhere in it! Anyone welcome, but the aim is to get as many Aussies riding as possible, even if it is only for part of the ride.

Details:

* Time: 7PM AEST Start - Leader will count down 5 minutes before the roll out (call made every 1 minute or so, pay attention so you don't miss the start!)

* Duration: Around 50 minutes. There will be an optional "After Party" ride starting right after the main ride for those interested in a 65 minute ride.

* After Party: Generally around 15 minutes.

* Direction/Course: Watopia Flat Route Forward (course may vary in future).

For the main ride this week we'll be doing 3 laps of Flat Watopia, normal direction. Distance around 30Km.

For those interested in the "After Party", we'll be doing 1 more lap at a higher intensity. Go as hard as you like go for the win, or try & hold on for as long as you can! Distance around 10Km (40Km total for the whole ride).

(Note: the course for the main ride & the "After Party" may vary in future weeks, with different "Humps" at different times of the ride - yes, including the mountain!)

If you arrive late please feel free to join the group. Use "6" on your keyboard to see the group coming up from behind. Start to pedal early or else the group will pass you at speed.

* Jersey: Any, but the ride leader will be wearing the yellow CRCA jersey, so please try & avoid that

* Bike: Anything but the TT bike (TT bikes make it hard to keep a group together due to the lack of drafting)

* Ride Leader(s) for this week is Tim Searle. We WILL be using the new ride leader indicator (yellow beacon/arrow) for our rides

* Start Location: *NEW EVENT MODULE* - Click Join Event in the App or @ login screen to start @ pier.

* Intensity: Main Ride: Easyish steady pace. We want to stay together. The leader will adjust the pace as necessary for the riders present. Generally 2-2.5W/Kg. You should not be above 3W/Kg at any time during the main part of the ride.

After Party: Harder pace, generally 3.5W/Kg as a guide.

Please look out for announcements from the leader regarding pace. The Leader does not chase those who go off the front.

This is a a very social ride at a steady pace (2.5 w/k avg.) Sticking together is goal #1. We will have some short intervals, so keep your eyes peeled for text instructions from the leader. Group rides on the flat section of Watopia tend to break up on 3 sections; (1) exiting the tunnel section, (2) the Esses, and (3) the lead-up to the Sprint, so watch your power in those spots. We Purge, Not Surge.

Roll out: 1:45 PM (EST), 10:45 AM (PT), 5:45PM (UTC) Leader will give 5mins, 3mins, 2mins, and 1. Go on "RDG GO GO GO"

Course: Choose "Flat."

Start Location: Start/Finish.

Leader: .Gibbs(RDG LEADER). He will be wearing the all-black Radavist kit.

Name: Please add RDGto your last name.

Kit: I'm begging you to wear the CRCA kit. Type "p" for promo-code and enter "CRCANYC" It's much easier to stay as a group this way and spot each other should a break up occur. But if you have to be you, just DO NOT wear the black Radavist kit that the leader is wearing, or he will heckle you ruthlessly.

NOTE: the w/k is the rate for the lead of the group, which means that if the instructed w/k is 2.5, the pack should only need to maintain around 2.2-2.3 to stay in the draft.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________

FORMAT: (leader will provide text instructions in advance)

*First 5: roll out at 1.5 to group up.

*Next 1:55: increase to 2.0-2.5 with 4 minute intervals in the tunnel, followed by a recovery at 1.5-2.0 to regroup. (Watch for leader text prompts.)

*Sprint: Seemslike we have a habit of grabbing Green. So go forit, but regroup on the leaderpost-haste.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

**Keep it steady and keep the leader in your sight. Don't let it get sideways. If the leader asks to re-group, or we split, please slow if you get ahead.

**No TT bikes. Clip-ons bars are allowed. Keep your blinky on steady.

**Socks are required.

**If you fall off, text "RDG sweep needed" and we will do our best to get you back on. If you are a large group off the back, we will slow to regroup. When everyone is back together, the leader will text to get back to pace.

**HAVE FUN!

Join the revolution here The Big Ring

We do things a bit differently here at The Big Ring so listen up. This is a weight handicap race which means little fast guys get to feel what its like to be a big slow guy! We apply our patented algorithm to riders data to give a race weight for the event. To allow this to work as well as possible riders need to register an FTP and a current weight with The Big Ring here so that handicap weights can be assigned.

Entry form - http://goo.gl/forms/ilg37IisSLueM2Mo2

The data will be stored in the spreadsheet so no need to tell us every week unless something changes. The more honest everyone is the more fun and competitive this will be so don't tell pork pies. The handicaps will be made available1 hour before event start. Simply change your rider weight to the weight you have been assigned and feel the deep deep burn of an extra few kilograms. In theory EVERYONE should be equal and be able to race for the win.

Friday March 22  –  3:30 PM to 6:00 PM
Created by: Deryck Walker
Where: Watopia

Rolling from start/finish line every Saturday 6:30am AEST.

Add (pHr) after your name.
Teamspeak Zwift Public Channel 2

We take in the 72km pretzel loop (http://zwiftblog.com/the-pretzel/) with ONE change, we will bypass the radio tower.

This isnt a race, it is a group ride that also gives the option of some efforts along the way, with the biggest/hardest effort being the final climb.

Pacing:
First 2kms @ <1.5wpk until bunch forms.
Flat/rolling riding roads pegged at 2.5wpk.
First big climb up Mt Doom at steady pace of 3 - 3.5wpk.
Dont take radio tower (select right arrow)
Easy rolling on the descent and roads after we regroup.

Once back together, pace to return to 2.5wpk on flats. Small KOMS (front and back) to be max 3.5wpk with option to contest the final 500 meters, leaders to ease off over the top (<1wpk) to allow regroup.

Final climb is a free-for-all race with these options:
* Front group, as hard as you can go for the win.
* Second Group, settle in to a firm pace in the autobus group which is max 3wpk.
Front group riders can either turn around to meet up with the autobus group, or just wait at the KOM banner.

Once all back together. we will roll to the finish line as a group.

Note: Three rules:
1) Leaders always to slow to allow regroup after efforts.
2) No TT bikes
3) Have fun

SMITE: Saturday Morning Interval Training Exercise
Saturday March 23  –  9:00 AM to 10:00 AM

Saturday Morning Interval Training Exercise (SMITE) is a 60 min no-drop group ride spiked by a rotating mix of short to long Strava segments. This is an official Zwift Event.

Have a day job? Finding it hard to train more than 6 hours per week? Interval training is a proven format for dynamic strength gains over short periods of time.

Everyone will be asked to maintain a pace of ~30 km/hr in between intervals. The ride leader will publish the Strava segments in advance, but will also call them out on the group ride.

Each interval is your opportunity to hammer it. Either go for glory on your own, or try and work with a group to conserve your strength and endurance.

Once at the end of the interval, either wait to recollect or ride back to gather up the rest of the group.

The first set of Strava Segments will be on the London Loop. Take a look at the London map to familiarize yourself with the segments.

  1. Sprint Interval: B to C .7 km SMITE: Yoda's Tricycle
  2. Sprint Interval: Tube between C and D .7 km SMITE: Freudian Slipway
  3. Sprint Interval: Tube between D and A .6 km SMITE: Sewer Rats
  4. TT Interval: A to B 3.2 km SMITE: Velo Raptors
  5. Hill Interval: between D and A 3.0 km BOX HILL KOM

The total distance of these intervals will be around 8.2 km out of ~30 km.

**** IF YOU WANT TO BE ON THE LEADERBOARD ****

Please join the SMITE club in Strava to be eligible for the Segment Podium afterwards. It's the only way to reliably find the right data for this event.

Where: London Loop

ZTR Tuesday Night Worlds Training Race Americas - West
Tuesday March 26  –  9:45 PM to 11:15 PM
Where: Zwift

Riding on an indoor stationary trainer used to be a chore - but now with Zwift there are races and group rides happening every day of the week, and there's nothing quite as motivational as riding against real people around the world.

I can tell you from my limited experience that these riders go HARD in the races, make sure you have a good fan to keep cool! There are lots of social rides too, like the TGIF Friday Beer Ride, if you're looking for a more relaxed pace.

Ride on!

Great TGIF ride today, big compact group finished all 4 laps at around 2-2.5 w/kg average, which was just right for me after a hard week.

Join in next Friday for this great social ride! (and check out Mark Minn's cool Tron bike)

Check out this awesome automated tool that tabulates Zwift race results!

Zwift Nation - Zwift Race Results

All you have to do is save your ride to Strava with the ride name and group and it should detect you automatically:

Results are generated by looking at riders start time (when they crossed the segment start line) and adding ride duration to identify end time (finish line). To have your ride included and ranked in the results, the name of your Strava activity must include the Race ID and one of the allowed categories specified in parentheses - e.g. "Watopia 11/12/2015 - ZTR (C)".

Please notice:
Rankings might not match 100% what was observed live "in race" as riders' local PC time settings might not be correct and thus Strava data will be equally imprecise. Please check that your local PC time setting is correct before your next race by visiting Time.is.

Unclassified means that category could not be identified correctly from the Strava ride name. Specify category correctly in parentheses - e.g. "(C)".

HI Skye,

Great site - thanks. Quick note on the ARR Saturday ride. Seems there are two rides - or at least a Flat or UCI course. I sailed on past the turn on the first lap and never saw them again. Fortunately so did Jensie, so kind of cool, but might be worth mentioning.
Cheers

Thanks for the info Andy. It's the responsibility of the ride organizers to update the event listing with any changes, but it sometimes they forget.

It's best to keep an eye out for announcements from the ride leader via the group chat before the start, they should announce the intended route, as well as keeping an eye on the group's turn indicators for the first few corners. It's especially problematic on the Richmond course where you can't make a U-turn.

Ultimately, I hope Zwift creates some better group ride & race features built into the world itself, so this won't be an issue anymore. There are a lot of things that could be improved (route selection, making leaders more visible, private/empty course, race neutralizing, w/kg limits, etc etc). Some hints have been dropped that they're working on it, but who knows when it will be ready.
