Chain whip when tightening cassette lockring?

Just curious if anyone uses a chain whip to take the load off the the freehub when tightening the cassette lock nut, or is the ratcheting mechanism in the freehub plenty strong enough to take the 40 Nm tightening torque?

All the photos of the procedure I've googled don't show anyone using a chain whip to take the load, I'm probably just being paranoid...

Answering this question from a while back. Just watched this GCN video on how to replace your cassette, and if they don't bother using a whip when tightening on a Zipp 808 NSW then I'm pretty sure it's not necessary.
Using the quick-release skewer to hold the lockring removal tool in place is a great idea. I always watch these basic maintenance videos even though I've done the procedure a number of times, as I usually pick up a tip or two.
^ CLICK TO REPLY
